April D. Porter

April D. Porter, an Attorney who began practicing law in 2000, has a private practice focusing on all types of litigation throughout the State of South Carolina. Mrs. Porter appears in Family Court, Magistrate Court, General Sessions, Circuit Court, Probate Court, Municipal Court, and Administrative Law Court.

Mrs. Porter was born in Kershaw County, South Carolina, and graduated from Lugoff-Elgin High School. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from the College of Charleston and a Doctorate of Jurisprudence from Mississippi College School of Law. 

In addition to private practice, Mrs. Porter is a Certified Family Court Mediator. She has served as the Attorney for the City of Chester, a contract attorney for the South Carolina Legal Services, and a Magistrate Court Judge. Mrs. Porter is admitted to practice in South Carolina and before the U.S. District Court of South Carolina. She is a member of the South Carolina Bar, the Chester County, and York County Bar. She has been a member of the South Carolina Association for Justice and the American Bar Association.  Mrs. Porter was recently admitted to the South Carolina Family Law Inn of Court.

She has presented on various family law topics for the South Carolina Bar, Institute for Paralegal Education, and National Business Institute. Mrs. Porter has appeared on national television as a legal expert and has written articles for publication. She has collectively served as a private and volunteer Guardian ad litem and an attorney for the Chester County Guardian ad litem program for over 20 years. 

Mrs. Porter has served on the Piedmont Citizen’s Committee for Judicial Selection, the Board of the Good Samaritan Medical Clinic, as the district chair for the Young Lawyer’s Division, and as an adjunct professor of business law.  She now proudly serves as a Board Member for Safe Passage and is passionate about child advocacy and preventing domestic abuse.

Mrs. Porter is married to Colonel Robert Dixon Burton and is the proud mother of her four children, Trey, Noble, Barrett, and Ella. She loves volunteering, running races, traveling, and cooking in her free time.  

Mrs. Porter’s favorite bible verse is Amos 5:24: “But let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an everflowing stream.” 

Nathan S. Schmitt

Nathan Schmitt was admitted to the South Carolina Bar in 2022.  

Nathan practices law in the areas of family law, probate, and civil court litigation.

He received his undergraduate History and International Relations Degree from the University of Indianapolis.  Attorney Schmitt graduated from the University of South Carolina School of Law in May 2022. 

Attorney Schmitt is a die-hard Colts fan and loves football in general. He is originally from Indiana but now calls South Carolina his home. He has enjoyed living in South Carolina and believes that SEC football is above the rest of the competition. 

Also, he enjoys the South Carolina weather. He has two labrador retrievers. A yellow lab named Odin and a silver lab named Freya.

Stephanie Wood

Stephanie Wood was admitted to practice law in 2006. She served as a prosecutor with the Sixth and Sixteenth Judicial Circuits as a Senior Solicitor for both circuits. She also served as an Assistant Attorney General with the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office.

Stephanie took a break from prosecution in 2015 to accept an appointment as a York County Magistrate working in Bond Court and also serving as the Catawba-Ebenezer Magistrate from 2015- 2021. 

Stephanie was honored to Co-Chair the South Carolina Women Lawyer’s Association Conference in 2024 and serve as the Regional Representative for the Old English Region in 2023. She supports area nonprofits to include Safe Passage where she previously served on the Board of Directors, the York County Sheriff’s Office Foundation, and she also served as a volunteer for ESGR (Employer Support of the Guard and Reserves). 

Stephanie obtained her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and her Juris Doctor from the University of Dayton School of Law. She currently resides in Rock Hill and in her free time enjoys running. Her goal is to participate in the Chicago Marathon. She and her husband, Mike, have been married for eleven years and enjoy spending time with family and friends.
